KATIE OLSON
Hi, my name is Katie, and I've been creating art for as long as I can remember! I was also (and still am) obsessed with reading. The connection between those two things started back in my elementary school. There was a library program involving book reports I worked on that included drawing an illustration from the books, and I took much joy from those. Now in the present, I continue to allow literature to inspire my artwork in various, often abstracted ways.
I graduated from Northern State University with a bachelor's degree in art education and have seven years of teaching experience building relationships with a combination of middle and high school students as well as adults. I have shown my own art in galleries and art fairs in the midwest, and currently I work as a cake decorator, another kind of artist!
I love exploring and pushing my student's creative thinking while teaching technical skills. The “why” behind the artwork is just as important to me as the “how.” I’m excited to bring my perspective and experience with a variety of art materials to the 402 Arts Collective!
