HARRISON COOK

Howdy hey, my name is Harrison, and I’m the writer and potter living here in the Midwest. I majored in English and Creative Writing, minored in Sociology and Playwriting, and received a Certificate in Literary Publishing. I’ve held several editorial positions at The University of Iowa editorial intern at The Iowa Review, which led to positions like State Coordinator for the Midwessay project and as the Deputy Managing Editor at Guesthouse after college.

I have eight years of experience writing for professional magazines like Slate, Hi-Fructose, Never Too Small, PlastikComb Magazine, Bricka, and more. My creative writing has been published in Future Tense, Gay Mag, Foglifter Journal, Gargoyle Magazine, TriQuarterly Review, and elsewhere. My essay “Atlas,” was recognized as a notable essay in Best American Essays 2021.

I’m elated to join the 402 Collective team in building out the literary arts offerings. My goal as a writing teacher is to not only help students improve their writing but also discover and amplify their own voice as a storyteller across all genres, while also building sustainable creative practices and navigating the publishing industry. Let’s tell a good story together.
